3. Which file format needed for 3D engraving?

The CorelDraw cdr, Illustrators ai, eps, png for the text and high resolution* jpg, tif, tga, pdf, bmp format for 2 dimensional text or photo engraving. *High resolution: your file should be at least three times the final engraved size at 72dpi. For example, if the engraved size of your logo if 1"x1" then your jpg file should be at least 216 x 216 pixels. (216=72*1"*3). For best results your logo should have clean, sharp edges viewed at normal size.

4. Can my personal photos be turned into 3D images?

Yes. We CAN turn photos of people into 3D Heads or Busts. Just send a facial image (portrait) from different angles and we can turn it into a 3D head. Send us pictures of objects, building and other items and we can turn them into 3D images. The amount of work we have to perform to turn objects, building and other items depends on the complexity of the image. There may be from 1 to 50+ hours of work by one of our 3D artists. We charge INR 500 per hour and we have a one (1) hour minimum for 3D work.

6. How to submit the artwork!

Sending Us the Artwork - We recommend that all files be sent to our email: info@crystalmirage.net. Please include the following on all artwork submissions: • Company/Organization information (if applicable) • Contact name • Phone number Types of Digital Artwork- Vector Artwork - Images that have their information stored geometrically and can be easily scaled to any size without loss of quality. Generally produced with graphics applications such as Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator. Raster Artwork - Images that have their information stored as pixels or dots and do not scale well without a loss of quality (jagged, stair stepped edges etc.). Generally produced by digital cameras, scanners and painting applications such as Corel Photo Paint and Adobe Photoshop. Artwork in vector format is preferred. Artwork should be submitted without gray scales, halftones or color unless being used for color reproduction. If your artwork contains specific fonts that are to be reproduced, it should be converted to curves (Corel) or outlines (Adobe) before being submitted. Acceptable PC File Formats- Here is the list of file formats that we can use in order of preference: Vector Formats: • .cdr (Corel Draw) • .eps (Encapsulated Postscript) • .ai (Adobe Illustrator) Raster Formats: • .tif (TIFF Bitmap) • .jpg • .gif Alternative Artwork Forms- Although CM prefers digital art, we recognize that it is not always possible. The following can be used in black & white or color: • Laser Printout • Photocopies • Inkjet Printout • Business Cards • Photos • Patches • Faxes are the worst form of artwork. We prefer not to use them.

7. How does the 3d Laser Engraving work?

The 3D laser engraving process uses a computer guided laser to precisely engrave 3D images within optically perfect laser crystal. Initial efforts produced 3D images engraved inside a solid piece of optically perfect laser crystal without damaging the crystal block surface. Refinements have added 2D images (pictures of people or things), text, 3D heads and other 3D objects. Additional advancements created our latest offerings, 2D sub-surface laser engraving is a unique merger of 3D and 2D laser engraving which produces the highest quality laser engraved image with unmatched quality and clarity.

8. How long will it take to make a customised 3D cyrstal?

It depends on how many point cloud any 3D/2D image has and ambient temperature around the laser machine. Because if diode pumping the laser systems gets heated; the engraving time also increases. With 200,000 points of 3D/2D image it will take about 2-3 minutes to finish one crystal (60,000/90,000 points/min) with portable laser engraving machine at ambient temperature less than 22oC.

9. What is concept of 3D Scanning?

The application of 3D capturors is the process of using digital cameras and pre-designed light to capture the information of shape and appearance of real objects. This process provides a simple way of acquiring 3D models of unparalleled details of objects and realizes 3D image modeling by scanning them from the real world. While a normal camera collects color information about surfaces within its field of view, 3D cameras collect distance information about surfaces within its field of view. The "picture" produced by a 3D camera describes the distance to a surface at each point in the picture.

10. What is External engraving, etching or sandblasting?

Sandblasting or etching is a generic term for the process of smoothing, shaping and cleaning a hard surface by forcing solid particles across that surface at high speeds. In glass etching, abrasive is blasted at the glass lightly to turn the glass semi-opaque. This ‘whiting’ or ‘snowing’ of the glass can be used to great effect to produce words or images. By adjusting the speed of the sandblasting and the angle from which the abrasive is being launched, differing shades can be created, allowing for some true works of art.

11. What is internal / subsurface Laser engraving ?

Laser engraving is the practice of using an intense lasers beams to engrave or mark an object. The technique does not involve tool bits which contact the engraving surface and wear out. This is considered an advantage over alternative engraving technologies where bit heads have to be replaced regularly. The laser machine controls the direction, intensity, speed of movement, and spread of the laser beam aimed at the surface.

12. What type of images needed for scale modeling and miniature and how long it may takes to complete the job?

Preferably for scale modeling, we need soft copy of high resolution photographs from all the dimensions i.e. front, back, left, right, top and close-ups for fine detailing and also floor plan in CDR or AutoCAD DWG/DXF format. And the duration for any scale model depends upon the design and detailing in the original structure.
